Category:Works by Muhammad IqbalVoter ID bill in conflict with voting rights
An amendment to H.R. 3109 introduced by Rep. Justin Smith (R-Mo.) is in conflict with our country’s founding principles of freedom and equality. This amendment would require that a Missouri voter who claims a student or elderly student or home-bound disabled voter identification card must present the identification from the Missouri Department of Revenue, Public Safety Department, Department of Corrections, or Department of Social Services.
Other than the Department of Corrections and Department of Social Services, the Missouri Department of Revenue also issues food stamp and public assistance cards. More than 60 percent of the state’s counties are food insecure.
The Missouri Department of Social Services provides more than 33,000 Missourians with medical assistance, medical support, and long-term care.
Missourians are told by our state legislators to trust the government’s employees, but this amendment is unacceptable.
We hope that the “lone wolf” Republicans in the Missouri House will see the wisdom in amending H.R. 3109. For your convenience, I have attached a pdf file of the amendment as prepared by the Missouri House.
