Summary
I like it so far, but there is too much of theory in it, and I find it harder to follow than what I would like to make it for myself. It does provide a good summary of the theory, and I have been familiar with most of it, but it would be best if I do it myself.
This book appears to be highly academic and is not very user friendly. It is really slow paced and detailed. It tries to include details such as current computer graphics and motion handling techniques. However, I don't know if this would be very useful to a beginner.
I don't know if this book has any interesting examples or applications of motion and particle physics, so I won't go into it. This book is a complicated one to follow.

My Experience
I have no problem with the book. The most important thing is that this is a perfect book for a novice 3d coder. I have tried different books and the author seems to know his subject very well. So this book is recommended for a total beginner in 3D graphics.
If you are an experienced 3D coder, you are better off looking for one of the many good books on 3D graphics.
This book shows how to use OpenGL and Java2D to make graphic games and animation. However, it lacks teaching 2D animation. For example, you can not write your own animator.
